Vision: It's normal to experience blurry vision or a feeling of having a foreign object in your eye after surgery. Vision improvement can take weeks.
Positioning: Depending on the type of surgery, your doctor might instruct you to maintain a specific head position for a certain period. This might involve staying upright or avoiding lying flat on your back.
Medications: Your doctor will prescribe antibiotic or steroid eye drops to prevent infection and inflammation. Follow the instructions carefully regarding dosage and frequency.
Diet: You can resume a normal diet following surgery unless your doctor advises otherwise.
Activity restrictions: Take it easy and avoid strenuous activities that could increase eye pressure for at least a week. This includes lifting heavy objects, bending over, and straining. Avoid getting water in your eye for at least a week or as directed by your doctor.
Flying after vitrectomy surgery: If no gas bubble was used, you may be able to fly as soon as a few days after surgery. If a gas bubble was used, you will typically need to wait for the bubble to dissipate before flying. This can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. It is important to talk to your doctor about your specific situation and get their clearance before flying after vitrectomy surgery.
