Oculoplastic & Reconstruction Surgery

Oculoplastic surgery, also known as oculofacial surgery, is a specialized area of ophthalmology that focuses on the health and function of the eyelids, tear ducts, and orbit (the bony cavity around the eye). There’s wide range of conditions to be treated by oculoplastic surgeries, including:

• Droopy eyelids (ptosis)

• Eyelids that turn inward (entropion) or outward (ectropion)

• Bags under the eyes

• Thyroid eye disease

• Eye injuries

• Tumors of the eye and orbit

• Birth defects of the eyes and orbit

Oculoplastic surgery can be performed for both medical and cosmetic reasons. For example, a blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) can be used to remove excess skin and fat from the eyelids, which can improve vision and reduce the appearance of bags and wrinkles. Oculoplastic surgery can also be used to repair damage to the eyelids or tear ducts caused by injury or disease.

Some common oculoplastic surgery procedures include:

• Blepharoplasty (eyelid lift)

• Ptosis repair

• Entropion repair

• Ectropion repair

• Thyroid eye disease surgery

• Tear duct surgery

• Orbital fracture repair

• Orbital tumor resection

• Oculoplastic reconstruction for birth defects
